Is constantly doubtful of his abilities and leaves Dreams F.C., only to return at a later point in the game.Įxtremely skilled player, and is captain of both Hamburg F.C., and the German national team. As a child, he played soccer with his brother David, and soon becomes captain of Dreams F.C. These characters include Robert, David, and Alfred. Only the more important characters in the game are given a unique appearance. There are 30 playable characters, many of which are remodeled versions of one another, with minor variation in such things as hair and eye colours and hair lengths. This, and the several player line-up changes that occur, such as David leaving and rejoining, add little depth to the game's already distorted storyline. The result was a confusing storyline coupled with odd behaviour of characters for ambiguous reasons. With this game, Tecmo tried to preserve the rivalry between characters in the original Captain Tsubasa series.
If the team qualifies, they get to compete in the Tecmo Cup. The Ours play a few matches against other clubs, and soon compete in the preliminary league. Shortly after the victory, Robert is contacted by an agent called Sylvia, who offers Robert the position of captain in the new all-star team called the Ours. Robert must defeat all opposing teams in the national tournament. with his brother David and soon becomes captain and star player of the team. To achieve his ambition, he joins the Dreams F.C. The game follows a young boy named Robert (who greatly resembles Tsubasa Oozora), with a passion for soccer and a dream of winning the World Cup. Robert, the game's protagonist, holding the World Cup Tecmo later released Captain Tsubasa (Mega-CD video game) in Japan in 1994 which was nearly identical to this game. A similar game was released a year before for the Nintendo Entertainment System under the title Tecmo Cup Soccer Game, which was also released in Europe as Tecmo Cup Football Game.
TECMO CUP SOCCER GAME ONLINE SERIES
The game greatly resembles the Captain Tsubasa series and games in appearance of characters and gameplay. There is a ROM of this game available on the Internet despite not having been released in cartridge form. 'SuperJuegos' magazine from Spain even had a VHS promotion video including footage of the game and promoting its further release.
The game would have enjoyed a Europe-exclusive release because the game was heavily promoted on many magazines and promo videos at the time.
TECMO CUP SOCCER GAME ONLINE LICENSE
While the game was about to be published by Sega with license from Tecmo for the Sega Mega Drive, it was cancelled due to the release department of Sega Europe's policy regarding third party games (along with many other games, most of them that already had a Japanese release, like Splatterhouse 3 or Golden Axe III). Tecmo World Cup, an earlier Mega Drive game that is completely unrelated (it, for one, is a straight soccer simulation), was released and should not be confused with this one.Tecmo Cup Football Game is a cancelled 1993 association football sports video game.
Whether or not the two games are related is unknown. Tecmo would produce a Captain Tsubasa for the Sega Mega-CD with the same gameplay in 1994. Because the westernized game is still similar to Captain Tsubasa in many ways, it is often pirated by Asian pirates as a genuine Captain Tsubasa game. A prototype ROM can be found in many ROM sites it is usually called Tecmo Cup, is listed as being from Japan, and is listed as a bad dump (presumably because the header was hacked out of Twinkle Tale, which does have in common with this game one thing: using the MC68000's line 1111 emulator trap to do common routines, though the actual routines are different). The game was not released in any region the reason why is unknown. As such, rather than being a straight soccer simulation, Tecmo Cup Football Game takes a more cinematic/RPG-esque approach to the sport, with the actual game being presented cinematicly and moves made by choosing from menus in a limited time.Ī version under the European name was being programmed for the Sega Mega Drive in 1993 only Sega and Tecmo are listed as involved companies and the programming appears to be unique to this game. In Japan where the game originated, it was called Captain Tsubasa and was based around the media franchise of the same name. This was the European name in America it was called Tecmo Cup Soccer Game. Tecmo Cup Football Game is a 1992 game for the NES by Tecmo.
